What is ADHD Coaching?
ADHD coaching is action-oriented and improves executive functions like organisation, time management and motivation. The focus is on using your strengths to help you address challenges. It is collaborative and emphasises building skills and strategies for the present and future.
How is coaching different from therapy?
A therapist focuses on the reasons for a client’s behavioural and thought patterns, whilst a coach focuses on how you can overcome your current problems. Coaching is about personal growth and involves action planning and goal setting. Some people see both a therapist and a coach to work on different areas.
What kind of outcomes can I expect?
It is different for everyone. Clients typically report understanding themselves better, feeling more confident, stronger emotional regulation and improved executive functioning
Do I need to have an ADHD diagnosis to work with you?
No, not everyone I work with has a formal diagnosis. In coaching, we focus on where you are now and the outcomes you’d like to achieve. The focus is on you rather than a diagnostic category.
Do you work with other types of neurodiversity?
Yes, I specialise in working with people who have ADHD, but many clients have co-occurring conditions. The focus is on you and finding strategies that help you cope better.
Do you work with children/teenagers?
I specialise in working with adults with ADHD, so in order for you to get the best result, I would suggest finding a coach who specialises in working with younger people.
Can I have my coaching session in person?
You are welcome to attend coaching in person if you would find it helpful, but please let me know beforehand if you want in-person sessions.
Can my coaching be held over Zoom/Teams?
As standard, our booking software will send out a Zoom appointment for you to attend. However, if you or your organisation prefer to use Teams, please let us know and we will set this up.
How do I book and manage my appointments?
All your sessions can be managed yourself through our booking software, Paperbell. You can sign in to purchase packages, book or manage your sessions, and manage your contact preferences. You can also sign up to get text reminders the day before your sessions!
How often should I have coaching?
Your coaching journey is as unique as you are, and everybody has a different schedule that works for them. Some new clients opt for weekly sessions to focus regular time and energy on the process. Other clients opt for fortnightly to allow time to put into practice the outcomes from the session. This frequency may change, and we can discuss this as needed. I do ask you to book your next session so we have clarity when we meet.
What if I’m not getting results?
I ask that you discuss your concerns to explore what we might do differently. If we cannot find a way forward, we can discuss options.
I have an Access to Work grant for coaching. Can I use this with you?
Yes - I regularly work with people who have an Access to Work grant.
I think a family member would benefit from coaching. Can I set this up for them?
Deciding to go for coaching is a deeply personal decision. Family members can facilitate the process, but the individual needs to be ready to engage and invest time and energy to get the best out of coaching. If you are supporting someone to access coaching, you can help them find a suitable coach, but then suggest they arrange the initial consultation themselves.
